Yotsuba Q&A

What is the diet of a dairy cow (female Holstein)?
Dairy cow consume a diet consisting of coarse feed, which is a mixture of pasture grasses and silage (a fermented mix of ingredients such as corn and pasture grass), and concentrated feed, which is a nutritionally-calibrated feed made by carefully balancing simple feeds such as corn and soy.

Dairy cows consume about 30 to 40 kg of feed in a day, along with about 50 to 60 ℓ of water.
Feed is of great importance, as it will affect a cow’s growth and health, as well as the nutritional content and flavour of her milk.
