Yotsuba Q&A

How many dairy cows (female Holsteins) are there in Hokkaido? How many tons of raw milk do they produce?
There are about 1.33 million dairy cows in all Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, of which approximately 60% are in Hokkaido.

About 7.29 million tons of raw milk are produced per year throughout Japan. Of this, Hokkaido accounts for about 3.92 million tons of raw milk.
Of the raw milk produced throughout Japan, about 55% is used for beverages such as milk, and the rest is processed into products such as butter, cheese, and powdered milk.
